Hi, there is not only theoretical foundation for the practice of Project Management. PM activities have been developed since Gantt, and PERT/CPM from researches, but mainly from experience, most of them came from civil engeneering. The PMBoK have just been publicated some years ago and that improved the compreension of what comprises the body of knowledge. Todays there is a considerable interdisciplinary knowledges of succesful projects across differents fiels and surveys.
